Knight president Alberto Ibargüen opened the 16th annual Knight Media Forum, the premiere event for leaders in philanthropy, journalism and technology to put forward new ideas and exchange diverse perspectives.
One of the topics discussed the importance of foundations investing in media. When Ibarguen was asked why foundations should prioritize journalism over basic needs such as housing, seniors, etc., he replied, "Whatever your first grant making priority is (housing, seniors, etc.), journalism should be your second."
Information, he said, is an essential bond in the building of community.
