In
Concentrate, a coalition of funders is supporting more dialogue and awareness about Washtenaw County’s growing arts scene. The coalition includes major county art institutions including the Ann Arbor Art Center, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, and the University Musical Society; the county's tourism bureau, Destination Ann Arbor; and a private couple, Larry and Lucie Nisson, who are heavily invested in local arts work. This group of key players in the local arts community is making possible weekly, in-depth coverage of a diverse range of local artists, as well as national and international artists coming through town.
So far, the series has covered a
freeform electronic music night for up-and-coming artists in Ypsilanti, a
photo essay chronicling the colorful sights of Ann Arbor's annual FestiFools parade, an interview with 24-year-old
Grammy-winning jazz singer Samara Joy, and a look at how Washtenaw County organizations are taking the lead on
spreading art in public. And that's just a sampling of the series so far.
