Raised in Michigan’s rural thumb region, IMG Co-Founder Boyle had become increasingly frustrated with how rural Michigan was portrayed in the media - while also observing a growing number of news deserts emerging across rural Michigan. Throughout a year-long effort, IMG formed a statewide and cross-sector coalition of partners interested in supporting expanded media coverage of important rural issues. This coalition, working in areas including housing, broadband, health, philanthropy, placemaking, entrepreneurship, and the arts, helped to launch RIX, creating a unique statewide voice for rural Michigan. The publication highlights innovative entrepreneurs, talented people, dedicated organizations, and devoted community builders. The publication strengthens people's work in rural areas and fosters a deeper sense of connection across Michigan. A partnership with Connected Nation Michigan, Michigan State Housing Development Authority, MSU Extension, Michigan Center for Rural Health, Michigan Health Endowment Fund, Michigan Municipal League, Council of Michigan Foundations, Michigan Downtown Association, and Michigan Fitness Foundation supports RIX.
